Hybrid Clubs

Many players opt to replace the 3- and 4-irons (which are more difficult to hit) with Hybrid or Utility clubs with the same loft as the iron it replaces. Hybrids are a cross between a wood and an iron, giving these clubs the wood's long distance with the iron's familiar swing. Typically the shaft length of a hybrid club is slightly longer (about 1 inch) than the shaft length of the iron the hybrid replaces. These clubs generally are used instead of low-numbered irons. Hybrid/Utility clubs can be used off the tee peg on the first shot on short distance Par 3 holes, frequently used from the fairway rough (this is why the hybrid is sometimes called a “rescue” club) or with a good lie angle, out of a fairway bunker. Some well known brands are Ben Hogan hybrid/utility, Callaway hybrid/utility clubs, Cobra hybrid/utility clubs, TaylorMade hybrid/utility clubs, Mizuno hybrid/utility clubs, Nike hybrid/utility clubs, and Titleist hybrid/utility clubs to name a few.
